Transcoding

Offloading and making dailies are the same pass. Each source can encode to several targets at once, so the proxies exist by the time the copy is done — and every one of them keeps the metadata the original arrived with.

A001_C003_0421AB.mxf

  • ProRes 422 HQMOV · 1080p
  • DNxHR SQMXF · 1080p
  • H.264MP4 · 720p

Encoded from the same read as the copy.

What it writes

Codecs

ProRes 422 and 422 HQ, DNxHR LB, SQ and HQ, H.264, HEVC and AV1.

Containers

MP4, QuickTime MOV and MXF OP-Atom.

Hardware where you have it

NVENC, Quick Sync and AMF when the machine offers them, software when it does not, or let Cocreate choose.

Several targets at once

Every source encodes to every target you have defined, so a viewing proxy and an edit-ready file come out of the same read.

How it looks

  • LUTs baked per target

Apply a .cube LUT to a target and retag the result to Rec.709, so what people review matches what was intended on set.

  • Resolution and framing

Full source, 1080p, 720p, half or quarter, with aspect handled by letterbox or centre crop rather than a silent stretch.

  • Frame rate and scan

Follow the source, take the rate from a sidecar, follow the project, or set it outright. Interlaced material can be preserved or forced progressive.

Metadata survives the encode

A proxy that has lost its timecode is a proxy somebody has to make again. Every target carries the source's metadata with it.

  • The whole metadata block is copied

Every tag the source carries is mapped onto the output, not only the handful Cocreate knows to look for.

  • Timecode is stamped, not guessed

Start timecode is written onto the output and drop-frame is preserved. If a slate was trimmed off the front, the timecode is offset to match so the proxy still lines up with the master.

  • Reel, camera and creation time come across

The fields an NLE sorts and groups on arrive with the file, so a proxy lands in the bin beside its master rather than on its own.

  • Nothing already there is overwritten

Where Cocreate fills a gap from a sidecar, it only fills gaps. A value the source already carries always wins over one Cocreate found elsewhere.

Transcode without copying

  • Encode-only jobs

Leave the destinations off and nothing is copied — sources go in, proxies come out. Useful when the originals are already where they belong and only the dailies are missing.
